HYDRASTIS CANADENSIS
GOLDENSEAL ROOT
Goldenseal, known botanically as Hydrastis canadensis, is a perennial herb native to the woodland regions of the northeastern United States. With a history that traces back to Native American traditional medicine, the indigenous tribes historically utilized goldenseal for various ailments ranging from digestive disorders to skin conditions. Its vibrant yellow root, enriched with berberine, gives the herb its name and is responsible for many of its therapeutic properties. From a holistic standpoint, goldenseal is often viewed as a natural antibiotic and immune system enhancer. Its compounds have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties, making it a popular remedy for infections, colds, and flu. For skin health, goldenseal's natural antiseptic qualities make it beneficial for a range of conditions. The root extract, when applied topically, can aid in healing skin infections, eczema, and acne by reducing inflammation and eliminating bacteria. Additionally, it can soothe irritated or inflamed skin and is often incorporated into creams, ointments, and lotions.
